Krik Culture and Art Association and Mladinsko Theatre will join forces this season in developing a new play entitled Illegitimate Mothers. The play will tackle the role and position of pregnant women in different periods of Slovenian history, abortion, absent fathers and male authority figures, the search for national and personal identity, and the recurrence of intergenerational traumas and patterns. The text will explore the attitude towards women and abortion in Slovenia in the period since the Second World War. It will be structured as a detective story and it will introduce audiences to four generations of the same family, but not in chronological order. In fact, the story will skip from one period to another, revealing new information about the identity of the main character. At the same time, it will also address the question about national identity, which in this thirty-year-old country still causes a great deal of confusion.
The performance will explore the means that enable us to embark on this time travelling journey—from classical drama performance through reading, sound recordings, videos and newspaper news to animations and more.
Predstava je nastala s podporo Ministrstva za kulturo in Mestne občine Ljubljana.
