These violent delights have violent ends

As a form of political representation, the democracy has never succeeded in finding mechanisms to deny legitimacy to those political platforms that are, in their essence, anti-democratic. This “paradox of democracy” is calling upon rethinking the democracy itself: How to save democracy from democracy? Is there a post-democratic form of political representation? Will such thinking automatically slip into some new form of totalitarianism? Can theatre, a medium in which the decision-making is primarily centralised and non-democratic, offer answers to these questions at all?

Thematically, the project will focus on another “democratic paradox” – the phenomenon of the “state of emergency”: the democracy suspends part of democratic procedures, constitutional rights and citizen liberties in order to preserve the democracy itself.
