Echoes
- Charlie d’Emilio
- Choreography: Nina Vernin
- Music: Izae
- Production: Thomas Fournier Galle
The very first solo stage piece by a drag king in France, Echoes is a poetic, funny, and deeply moving journey through the doubts, dreams and struggles of a young adult searching for identity. Blending theatre, dance and song, d’Emilio reveals themselves on stage and invites the audience to witness the construction of identity through dreamlike sequences, doubts and introspections.
Charlie d’Emilio (FR) – the stage name of Émilie Verheul – is not a stereotypical drag king, if ever there was one, but cultivates an androgynous ambiguity that symbolizes the masculine and the feminine as the opposite of each other. Primarily centered on their own need for emancipation, Charlie was born out of fear. Their body is the body of Verheul, their voice is the voice of Verheul, but they keep their fears to themselves.
Performance in French with surtitles.
