Originally developed and performed for Tanznacht 2023 at Tanzfabrik Berlin funded by the Berlin Senate Administration for Culture and Social Cohesion.
Material Performance is a 60 minute drag and dance solo by Olympia Bukkakis. Inspired by the ingenuity of queer kids playing secret dressups, as well as drag performers working on a tight budget with found materials, in this piece Olympia works with, against, for, and under 10 meters of red fabric. Various figures, moods, and textures emerge from the raw material of this fabric as Olympia meditates on mutability, labour, and democratic fantasy. For this performance she'll be joined by an artist from the local drag scene of Ljubljana.
