Sister Barbara's Cookbook

For the Performance Festival 2023, Barbara Kukovec and her collaborators prepared Sweet Worries, a collection of recipes that use legendary feminist performances as case studies to relearn reactions necessary for everyday survival. In her new project, Sister Barbara’s Cookbook, Kukovec will expand the recipes and share them with her fellow countrywomen. Yes. Barbara is coming back to the place she fucked off from with the speed of light years ago. Her story is a classical one. An escape from the traditional patriarchal hole into an urban and ostensibly free-thinking, egalitarian world. Why the hell is she coming back?

As the adage goes, you can take the girl out of the country, but never the country out of the girl. And this is certainly true for Barbara. During her return, she doesn’t just want to face her own stereotypes and mental images of her county sisters, she also wants to establish the space and circumstances where the exchange can go both ways. The exchange of recipes, what else. Her intention to create a non-patriarchal countryside is genuine. Her tool is performance. Oh, how exciting and impossible!
