Open call for young theatre makers
In 2024, the Mladinsko Theatre will open the facilities and stage of the New Post Office to the younger generation of theatre practitioners (directors, authors, artistic groups, etc.) from the region (Ex-Yu), focusing in particular on their first projects developed within institutions. The Mladinsko Theatre will provide financial support (EUR 20,000 gross) for a minimum of one and a maximum of two original productions, as well as facilities, technical, professional and HR support, including the chance to engage 4 to 6 actresses and actors from the Mladinsko's artistic ensemble. This does not mean, of course, that they can’t engage freelance actresses and actors or students of acting within the envisaged framework.
Application deadline: 1 June 2023
Project implementation period: 20 May to 10 October 2024, with a 2-month summer break. (If two projects are selected, one of them – upon agreement – will be carried out at a later date in the autumn.)
The application should include:
- A performance concept (up to 2000 characters without spaces);
- A list of participating artists and other professionals;
- Short CVs of the key people involved in the project (up to 750 characters without spaces per CV);
- The proposed cast.
Special consideration will be given to proposals that meet the following conditions and criteria. The artists
- are on average less than 30 years old (this does not apply to the intended participating members of the Mladinsko Theatre);
- have a creative approach to contemporary playwriting and new performance practices;
- understand and take into account the profile of the Mladinsko Theatre;
- want to explore a range of performance formats;
- explore and reflect on modernity;
- intend to apply for, or have already been selected for, the Slovenian Ministry of Culture's calls for proposals for an author's first project, a producer's first project or a two-year body of work;
- already have a source of funding, either through a call for proposals or co-production, or can demonstrate that they are in a position to provide it;
- foresee the involvement of actresses and actors of the Mladinsko ensemble in the concept of the performance.
