Lina Akif

Bio

Lina Akif (1995) is an actor and a performer; she works in theatre institutions as well as with independent producers. She appeared in productions in the SNT Drama Ljubljana and the Ljubljana City Theatre when she was still a student, and in the years afterwards created roles in Mini teater, Prešeren Theatre Kranj, Ptuj City Theatre, Anton Podbevšek Teater, Celje City Theatre, Maska Institute, Via Negativa and Melara Institute. She was employed at the Celje City Theatre but then decided to research and create with other collectives. She is primarily interested in socially-critical, political and devised theatre. She was a guest actor in several Mladinsko productions (Scattered Stories, Fever, Fear and Misery of the Third Reich, Sex Education II) and then became a full-time member of its ensemble in March 2024. In addition to theatre, she also explores the art of performance, records radio plays, lends her voice to animated characters and acts on film and television. Her performance on Mount Triglav A Slovenian Passion Play got a lot of attention, and Akif showed a recording of it in several museums (Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, Škuc, Center for Contemporary Arts in Celje). She received two Goldilocks student awards for it, one for the devised performance achievement, and the other, together with her team, for engaged participation and documentation of the performance. At the Maribor Theatre Festival 2022 she won the Borštnik Award for Young Actress for her roles in Fever (Mladinsko Theatre in coproduction with steirischer herbst ’21 and Maska Ljubljana), Birds of a Kind (Mini Teater) and Black Skin, White Masks (APT and Dance Theatre Ljubljana).
